Dom also enjoys the challenge of solving problems people are having with their existing glasses, including multifocals (progressives). Dom also has experience with corneal topography, orthokeratology, and RGP contact lens fitting.
Away from work, Dom enjoys keeping fit, camping with his kids, and volunteering at his local surf lifesaving club.

Michelle – Qualified Optical Dispenser
A qualified and experienced optical dispenser, Michelle has worked in the optical industry for nearly 25 years, and has worked at Custom Eyecare on & off for over ten years.
Michelle has lived in the Newcastle region all her life and loves the lifestyle it offers. Now her two boys are all grown up she spends her spare time enjoying her local beach with her dog, keeping fit (or trying to!) by going to the gym and running, and travelling with her husband.
Erica – Qualified Optical Dispenser
Erica is a qualified optical dispenser with over 20 years of experience who first started her optical dispensing traineeship on the Central Coast of NSW, before heading overseas to explore the world. After months of travelling she found herself in London working as optical dispenser in the financial & business district of Canary Wharf, and then accepted a role in an optical laboratory in the upmarket area of Notting Hill.
Eventually, and luckily for us, Erica returned to Newcastle, got married and started her family. Erica enjoys running, going to the gym, spending time with her family and travelling.
Jenni – Qualified Optical Dispenser
Jenni has lived in Newcastle all her life and started in the optical industry over 20 years ago. Jenni is not only a qualified optical dispenser but also a certified optical dispensing trainer. She started working at Custom Eyecare in 2008.
Away from work Jenni loves to spend time with her husband and two children. She also loves her horses, photography & hanging out at the beach. Jenni is also a keen Latin dancer, and you may even catch her teaching a dance class or two!
Kylie is a qualified and experienced optical dispenser who obtained her qualification at an independent optometrist on the NSW South Coast years ago.
Since then she has also worked as a technical & sales representative for Zeiss, one of the major international spectacle lens manufacturers. So Kylie knows plenty about the technology behind the lenses that go into your glasses – whether a simple pair of readers, or the latest technology in computer-designed multifocals.
Darren – Front of House
Joining us in 2017, Darren is known to many Novocastrians from his work in various well-known Newcastle retail positions over the years – if you bought music on records in the 1980s, or CDs in the 1990s, chances are Darren might have helped you find what you wanted!
At Custom Eyecare, Darren works the phones & “front of house”, which is a perfect match for his outgoing & social personality!
Job sharing with Darren, and also new in 2017, Kathy also has strong people and communication skills, with great experience in a variety of areas from technical support for a pay-TV company, right through to international airline cabin crew! Like Darren, Kathy is quickly learning our optometry lingo and is already settling in quickly.
Away from work, Kathy enjoys watching her sons play rugby league, and looking after guests at her very own Airbnb in Medowie!
Emily – Ophthalmic Technician
Thanks to strong demand for our services, we have created a new role for 2018. Emily’s focus is on preparing patients to see the optometrist – taking measurements, scans, clinical images, and generally assisting with the eye testing work-flow. Emily also conducts visual field testing and helps you with your contact lenses! Emily comes from a university psychology background so she is a true ‘people person’. She is also an aficionado of the Newcastle coffee scene!
Your optometrists at Custom Eyecare are all fully qualified members of the Optometrists Association Australia (OAA), and stay up to date with the latest eyecare research by regularly attending conferences & seminars in order to not just meet but exceed the minimum continuing professional education (CPE) requirements of the Association and the Optometry Board of Australia (OBA).
