Dom also enjoys the challenge of solving problems people are having with their existing glasses, including multifocals (progressives). Dom also has experience with corneal topography, orthokeratology, and RGP contact lens fitting.
Away from work, Dom enjoys keeping fit, camping with his kids, and volunteering at his local surf lifesaving club.

Kylie – Qualified Optical Dispenser
Kylie is a qualified and experienced optical dispenser who obtained her qualification at an independent optometrist on the NSW South Coast years ago.
Since then she has also worked as a technical & sales representative for Zeiss, one of the major international spectacle lens manufacturers. So Kylie knows plenty about the technology behind the lenses that go into your glasses – whether a simple pair of readers, or the latest technology in computer-designed multifocals.
Kylie is currently on maternity leave but we look forward to welcoming her back whenever she’s ready!
Darren – Front of House
Darren is known to many Novocastrians from his work in various well-known Newcastle retail positions over the years – if you bought music on records in the 1980s, or CDs in the 1990s, chances are Darren might have helped you find what you wanted!
At Custom Eyecare, Darren works the phones & “front of house”, which is a perfect match for his outgoing & social personality!
Kathy – Front of House
Kathy also has strong people and communication skills, with great experience in a variety of areas from technical support for a pay-TV company, right through to international airline cabin crew! Kathy works the front desk, greeting people, making appointments, answering phones & emails, and general admin tasks.
Away from work, Kathy enjoys watching her sons play rugby league, and looking after guests at her very own Airbnb in Medowie!
Emily – Ophthalmic Technician
Emily’s focus is on preparing patients to see the optometrist – taking measurements, scans, clinical images, and generally assisting with the eye testing work-flow. Emily also conducts visual field testing and helps you with your contact lenses and with glasses selection and ordering. Emily comes from a university psychology background so she is a true ‘people person’. She is also an aficionado of the Newcastle coffee scene!
Holly – Ophthalmic Technician
Holly has worked in various roles in optometry practices in the USA, where optometrists are called doctors. Now living in Australia, Holly job-shares with Emily, helping prepare patients for the optometrist visit by performing pretesting and helping with contact lens work and visual fields.
Kelly – Optical Assistant
Kelly assists with lens measurements and ordering of glasses and contact lenses, and she especially loves helping people choose a frame that’s a perfect match for the face!
Kelly loves exploring Australia with her family in their caravan, and rates the Kimberley and Uluru as highlights of her travels so far.
Karen – Qualified Optical Dispenser
Karen has many years of experience as a qualified optical dispenser at independent optometrists, meaning you’ll receive personalised advice about frames and lenses from someone who knows what she’s talking about.
Jess – Optical Assistant
Jess already has around four years experience in optics, and is now studying for her Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing to add solid theory and formal training to her existing practical experience.
Adrian – Optical Dispenser
Adrian is a qualified and experienced optical dispenser who has just moved to the Newcastle area to live. He particularly enjoys the technical aspect of optics, and is expert in adjusting and fixing glasses, working with tools in the workshop, and also choosing the right frame and lens combination for the best visual results.
Your optometrists at Custom Eyecare are all fully qualified members of the Optometrists Association Australia (OAA), and stay up to date with the latest eyecare research by regularly attending conferences & seminars in order to not just meet but exceed the minimum continuing professional education (CPE) requirements of the Association and the Optometry Board of Australia (OBA).
Your qualified optical dispensers at Custom Eyecare are members of the Australian Dispensing Opticians Association (ADOA), which only accepts members who have the Certificate IV Optical Dispensing qualification and who are licensed with the Optical Dispensers Licensing Board. Members of ADOA are not only competent and experienced but also abide by a code of ethics. This means you can trust their advice when choosing your frames and lenses.
